About the Producer

Herdade da Maroteira is one of the agricultural properties belonging to one of the Anglo-Portuguese families established in the Alentejo Region, Portugal, for more than five generations.
Located at south of Serra D’Ossa, north of Évora, Herdade da Maroteira is a 540ha property dedicated to viticulture and various other agricultural activities such as cork, livestock and some olives.

In 2000, under the leadership of a new owner, Philip Mollet, the property underwent a revolution in its strategic orientation with the support and collaboration of the late David Booth and the winemaker António Maçanita. A new Syrah vineyard was planted, which resulted in a wine that was immediately successful, the acclaimed Cem Reis.
Alongside Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonêz and Touriga Nacional were planted, totaling 15 hectares of vines in clay-limestone soils.

Three wines are produced from these varieties, Mil Reis (100% Syrah), Cem Reis (100% Syrah), the white Cem Reis (100% Viognier, made from grapes from the family's land in Montemor-o-Novo), and the Ten Tostões (Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional and Syrah).

Mil Reis Grande Reserva Syrah, produced from the first Syrah plot in Maroteira, planted in 2000, only comes out on the market in years of excellence. It is 100% deep and robust Syrah, of enormous complexity that has aged for 18 months in new French and American oak barrels and 6 months in bottle.

The acclaimed and much sought after Cem Reis wine, structured but round and quite persistent, originates from the selection of the best Syrah batches of the year of production, composing a final batch that ages for 16 months in French oak (50%) and American oak barrels ( 50%).

The fragrant, unctuous and tasty Cem Reis Viognier, made partially in stainless steel and in barrels where it ages for 9 months, is another wine that is in the favor of the most demanding connoisseurs.

The Dez Tostões family range, in the white versions of Antão Vaz, a blended red and a rosé of Syrah, are delicious, versatile and gastronomic wines, a perfect complement to the more epicurean range.

In parallel, another project was born in 2006, the Senhor Doutor d'Evoramonte range, developed at Herdade da Maroteira, but with grapes from Évoramonte, oriented towards the positioning of “author wines”, of a very specific character, with a challenging profile, imagined and conceived under the baton of Philip Mollet and António Maçanita.

The range is made up of the robust and structured Touriga Nacional (100%), aged for 16 months in new French Oak barrels, a white Field Blend (Antão Vaz, Arinto, Verdelho and Roupeiro), intense with freshness and elegance at the same time quite temperamental. is original. The Senhor Doutor range ends with a rich, dark rosé, very little “Provence”, but quite gastronomic from the Touriga Nacional grape.

In 2004, agrotourism was not neglected. It was the natural evolution in a property with everything to relax in a historic area with beautiful landscapes in Alentejo, Portugal. It is in this calming environment where you can stay overnight in one of the perfect accommodation options for agritourism in the main house (manor house), in a wooden house and in a chalet. The wonderful location offers the opportunity to carry out numerous activities in communion with nature, such as a picnic while enjoying the house wines or peacefully venturing through the cork forest with a focus on the incredible world of cork (Corktrekking), on a jeep tour or hike. … and observe birds (Birdwatching) or stars (Stargazing). As they challenge themselves, “Let's open the heart of the genuine Alentejo to you!”.
