About the Producer

Over a century ago, in Sarilhos Grandes, Setúbal region, a farmer settled at an area with over 600 hectares, demanding the plantation of vines aiming to extract the best possible wines those sandy grounds could originate. Nowadays, the grandchildren of that very same Domingos Damasceno de Carvalho honor the vision of the founder and father of these lands, bringing to us some of the best and more prestigious wines of Palmela.

The Viticulture in Setúbal has its inception with the romans. The mixed climate, strongly influenced by the proximity to the sea, the sandy grounds and the autochthone grape varieties which thrive there with particular brilliance, mold a privileged terroir for the production of quality wines.
A sharp man, Domingos Damasceno de Carvalho knew what was in it for him at this vineyard. Its inspiration produced fruits that lasted all the way until the current day.
As of now, Damasceno Wines explores three pieces of land between Palmela and Pegões. The Vinha das Pedras Negras, 6 hectares, the Quinta de Agualva with similar dimenson and the Vinha de Pegões, the biggest of them all, extending over 13 hectares of white varieties.
Under the wisdom of the experienced oenologist António Saramago, these 3 properties offer the wine enthusiasts a small portfolio of choice. Starting right away with the Damasceno Wines. The Red wine, blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon is young, full of character and a gastronomic identity. To the Damasceno Reserva, a wide variety of grape varieties was picked. The Syrah remains on a harmonious gathering with Touriga Nacional. Matured for 12 months in new barrels of French wood, it comes up with an intense color, complex aromas, notes of wild fruits and black plum, ideal for a meal of intense flavors.
Equally serious is the range of Nocturnos, red, white and rose. Elaborated with wines harvested during the night, these wines are well known by the freshness, the quality exhibited, the fruits and its sophistication. The Red is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Castelão. The White comes up as an elegant combination of Moscatel Graúdo and Arinto. The rose adds to the white blend a small percentage of Fernão Pires. The house produces a Moscatel Roxo, tremendous, round, soft, fresh and with a long ending.
A century and a half after its foundation, Damasceno Wines honors the traditions of Palmela in a project that, never leaving its family roots, leaves a mark within the best in the region. The memory of Domingos Damasceno de Carvalho can only stay ennobled with the talent of his successors.
